Apprenticeship in Hairdressing Level 2
An Apprenticeship is the very best way to enter the hairdressing industry, and you earn whilst you learn! During your Apprenticeship you will be paid the National Minimum apprenticeship wage, or more if you are hardworking and passionate about your hairdressing career.
Course Overview:
Practical training at the salon for a minimum of 30 hours per week, and at the Academy 1 day per week 9.30am - 3.30pm. Your course will ensure that you learn about and understand your employment rights and responsibilities as well as your personal development, behaviour & welfare to enable you to work professionally within the salon environment on completion of this nationally recognised qualification. Achievement of Functional Skills English & Maths at Level 1 will be required unless you hold GCSEs at 3 - 9 in these subjects.
City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals (Hairdressing)
Units include cutting, styling, relaxing and hair extensions and combine Level 2 & level 3 skills
Duration:
2 years - This can be reduced to 18 - 21 months for people who work hard on their practical skills.
6 units to be completed plus the final unit (end point assessment).
PART 1:
MandatoryProfessionalism and values - Behaviours and communication - Safe working practices, all three are embedded within units. By the end point assessment you will be able to demonstrate the following: professionalism, a passion for the industry and industry knowledge, a commitment to quality, a positive attitude, working within a team and working under pressure.
Unit 201: Consultation
PART 2:
MandatoryUnit 202 - Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
Unit 203 - Cut hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks
Unit 204 - Style and finish hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks
Unit 205 Colour and lighten hair using a range of techniques
Options - 1 optional unit to be chosen by the apprentice in liaison with their employer and training provider
Unit 206 Perming hair vUnit 207 Hair relaxing treatments and techniques
Unit 208 - Hair extension services
Final unit (end point assessment)
The final unit includes a synoptic practical assessment where the apprentice will demonstrate the skills required across the mandatory units and be questioned to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding, including professionalism, values, behaviours, safe working practices and consultation skills. You will need to be working towards Functional skills English and maths at level 2 to enter the gateway to achieve this qualification.
Price:
Apprenticeships are government funded for 16-18 year olds. 5% of the cost of training is passed to the employer which for hairdressing is £350.00 + vat, but these charges are waived for 16 - 18 year olds and are only due when an employer takes on 19+ apprentices.
The employer will also be asked to pay for retaking the end point assessment if the apprentice does not pass first time.
Entry eligibility requirements:
Entry Level 3 or higher, personal interview, employed by a salon - don't worry if you do not have a job right now as we have salons waiting to employ you.
Advanced Apprenticeship in Hairdressing L3
The Advanced Apprenticeship has been designed for individuals wish to qualify in advanced cutting and colouring techniques and colour correction.City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in hairdressing is also offered privately, for learners who are not eligible for a government funded apprenticeship.
1 day per week at the Academy, as the course progresses you will be assessed in salon*
Duration:
12 - 15 months. *Course can be tailored to your/your salon's needs via 1/2 day per week at the Academy in salon assessments. Duration: 14 – 18 monthsPrice:
Apprenticeships are government funded for 16-18 year olds.19+ learners may be able to access partial funding and will be required to meet some of the training costs. This qualification can also be taken on a private (self-funded) course at £4,400 with 20% discount for full payment in advance £3,520.00 Prospective students aged 19 or older can access a government funded loan which is not repayable until your earnings reach £21,000 pa. Practical training at your barber shop/Gentlemen's grooming salon for a minimum of 30 hours per week, and at the Academy 1 session per week Tuesdays at 4pm – 8pm. Your course will ensure that you learn about and understand your employment rights and responsibilities as well as your personal development, behaviour & welfare to enable you to work professionally within the salon environment on completion of this nationally recognised qualification.
Achievement of Functional Skills English & Maths at Level 1 will be required unless you hold GCSEs at 3 – 9 in these subjects.
Duration:
2 Years. This can be reduced to 18 – 21 months for people that work hard on their skills and progress.
City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals (Barbering) – 6 units to be completed plus the final (end point assessment) unitPART 1:

Entry Requirements:
No formal qualification or previous experienced necessary but a good level of English together with a high level of commitment and enthusiasm to succeed within the industry are helpful. An informal interview with the course coordinator is necessary to assess your learning requirements.Course Duration:
One year to complete the course, but can vary from learner to learner. We will support you to complete the course at your own comfortable pace. At your informal interview, the course tutor will be able to give you an estimate of how long the course will take to complete which will depend on your own learning and support requirements, and how much time per week you wish to commit.Career Prospects / Progression:
This qualification may lead directly into employment in the hair and beauty industry as a stylist in a salon. It also provides suitable progression opportunities to further advanced studies such as Level 3 NVQ Diploma Barbering or Level 3 TAQA course.Course Dates:

For qualified hairdressers who are looking to be able to assess, either in their own salon or the salon they work in, or for people who are considering a teaching position.The TAQA Assessor award is delivered in small groups and will take most people approximately 6 months to achieve and begins with theory and then moves on to practical assessment; we offer work experience at the Academy to ALL of our candidates.
Initial theory delivery takes place from 4.30pm on Tuesdays over a period of 5 weeks. You then progress at your own pace, attending the academy for one session per week to gain practical teaching experience at the Academy unless your salon has sufficient apprentices, where you will be assessed at your workplace.
You will have access to 1-2-1 support throughout your training by our dedicated TAQA lecturers, Amanda & Sue. Places are strictly limited for this course, so please contact us to register your interest now.
