Apprenticeship in Hairdressing L2

If you are 16 – 18 with a passion for hairdressing, this is the very best way to enter the hair industry, and you earn whilst you learn! During your Apprenticeship you will be paid the National Minimum apprenticeship wage, or more, and on successful completion will have gained transferable skills such as Personal Learning and Thinking Skills, Employment rights and responsibilities, Functional Maths and English Skills as well as hairdressing experience and an internationally recognised qualification – all of which are exactly the skills employers seek!

City & Guilds NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing – Intermediate Apprenticeship

1 day a week at college 9.30am – 4.00pm and a minimum of 24 hours a week in a hairdressing salon.

Duration:- 1 year – 18 months. This can be reduced if you already hold Level 2 Apprenticeship qualification.

NVQ Level 2 includes the following 9 units:

Ensure Your Own Actions Reduce Risk to Health and Safety
Give Clients a Positive Impression of Yourself and Your Organisation
Advise and Consult with Clients
Shampoo and Condition Hair and Scalp
Change hair colour
Style and finish hair
Set and dress hair
Cut hair using basic techniques
Plait and twist hair

Price:

Apprenticeships are government funded for 16-18 year olds, you or your salon pay only £200 which includes your start-up kit and uniform. The NVQ Level 2 can also be taken as a private (self-funded) course at £2,500.00 plus induction, registration and kit fees.

Some funding may be available for 19+ learners; you will be asked to make a contribution towards the costs of your training.

Course Overview:

Practical training, theory input and assignments and on-line testing. Personal Learning & Thinking Skills, Employment Rights and Responsibilities, and unless you already have English & Maths GCSEs at A-C, Functional skills at level 1 or 2.

Entry eligibility requirements:

Personal interview, employed by a salon - don't worry if you do not have a job right now as we have salons waiting to employ you! This NVQ Level 2 can also be taken as a private (self-funded) course at £2,500.00 plus induction, registration and kit fees.

L2 Hairdressing Apprenticeship

Advanced Apprenticeship in Hairdressing L3

The Advanced Apprenticeship has been designed for individuals wish to qualify in advanced cutting and colouring techniques and colour correction.
City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in hairdressing is also offered privately, for learners who are not eligible for a government funded apprenticeship.
1 day per week at the Academy, as the course progresses you will be assessed in salon*

Duration:

12 - 15 months. *Course can be tailored to your/your salon's needs via 1/2 day per week at the Academy in salon assessments. Duration: 14 – 18 months

Price:

Apprenticeships are government funded for 16-18 year olds.19+ learners may be able to access partial funding and will be required to meet some of the training costs. This qualification can also be taken on a private (self-funded) course at £4,400 with 20% discount for full payment in advance £3,520.00 Prospective students aged 19 or older can access a government funded loan which is not repayable until your earnings reach £21,000 pa. Apprenticeship in Barbering L2

If you are 16 – 18 with a passion for the barbering or hair, this is the very best way to enter the industry, and you earn whilst you learn!
During your Apprenticeship you will be paid the National Minimum apprenticeship wage, or more, and on successful completion will have gained transferable skills such as Personal Learning and Thinking Skills, Employment rights and responsibilities, Functional Maths and English Skills as well as hairdressing experience and an internationally recognised qualification – all of which are exactly the skills employers seek!

City & Guilds – NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Barbering – Intermediate Apprenticeship

One session per week: Tuesdays at 4.30pm plus a minimum of 28 hours a week in a Barbers or Gentlemen's Grooming salon.

1 session per week:

Tuesdays at 4.30pm

Duration:

1 Year. This can be reduced if you have already achieved a Level 2 hairdressing Apprenticeship.

Our Apprenticeship in Barbering includes 9 units:

4 of which are specific barbering techniques:

GB3 – Cut hair using barbering techniques
GB4 – Cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques
GB5 – Dry and finish men's hair
AH21 – Create basic patterns in hair

5 further units must be achieved (which can be accredited from prior learning if you hold Level 2 or higher NVQ in hairdressing at current standards.

G20 – Make sure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
G7 – Advise and consult with clients
GH8 - Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
G4 - Fulfil salon reception duties
G17 - Give clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation

Entry Requirements:

No formal qualification or previous experienced necessary but a good level of English together with a high level of commitment and enthusiasm to succeed within the industry are helpful. An informal interview with the course coordinator is necessary to assess your learning requirements.

Course Duration:

One year to complete the course, but can vary from learner to learner. We will support you to complete the course at your own comfortable pace. At your informal interview, the course tutor will be able to give you an estimate of how long the course will take to complete which will depend on your own learning and support requirements, and how much time per week you wish to commit.

Career Prospects / Progression:

This qualification may lead directly into employment in the hair and beauty industry as a stylist in a salon. It also provides suitable progression opportunities to further advanced studies such as Level 3 NVQ Diploma Barbering or Level 3 TAQA course. TAQA (Assessor) Award

For qualified hairdressers who are looking to be able to assess, either in their own salon or the salon they work in, or for people who are considering a teaching position.
The TAQA Assessor award is delivered in small groups and will take most people approximately 6 months to achieve and begins with theory and then moves on to practical assessment; we offer work experience at the Academy to ALL of our candidates.
Initial theory delivery takes place from 4.30pm on Tuesdays over a period of 5 weeks. You then progress at your own pace, attending the academy for one session per week to gain practical teaching experience at the Academy unless your salon has sufficient apprentices, where you will be assessed at your workplace.
You will have access to 1-2-1 support throughout your training by our dedicated TAQA lecturers, Amanda & Sue. Places are strictly limited for this course, so please contact us to register your interest now.

14-16 Specialist Vocational Training for school students

Shears can provide your school's Vocational training and GCSE Equivalent in Hairdressing & Barbering, Hair and Beauty and Customer Service to year 10 and 11 students who are interested in a career in the hairdressing, barbering, beauty and customer service / client care industries.
